Manchester Joint Hospital

The Manchester Joint Hospitals Project will provide a new Children’s hospital, new facilities for the Royal Eye Hospital, the Manchester Royal Infirmary and St Mary’s Hospital for Women and Children. It consists of 14 separate buildings, including a 120,000 m2 main hospital building, a new energy centre and Mental Health units as well as associated infrastructure and multi storey car parking. The project will provide four state-of-the-art hospitals in Manchester for Children and Adults as well as major university research facilities.

With the construction of several new buildings all of which were required to have access to the hospitals various networks, the installation of new fibre optic backbone cables from the existing Data Nodes to the new Comms Room locations was a necessity. This is where Sonet was the natural choice with extencive experience in the field of fibre optic terminations. With over 2000 single-mode connections to be made with the fibres ranging in length from 500m to over 2k. With the cables in position Sonet proceded to splice and test the SM fibre optic links. Test results were then presented to the customer in both OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) and LSPM (Light Source & Power Metre) formats.
